A Poem

A borrower of troubles, a stealer of cares,
A thief of possibilities yet unknown,
My oldest friend, and worst of enemies,
My everlasting relentless foe.
An upstart prophet, a seer with pretensions,
A harbinger, a doomsayer, a sibyl,
Purloiner of faith, purveyor of dark and dread,
And a deceiver — a liar from the go.
And yet so easy to believe, so hard to ignore,
However much I wish I could, dream I could:
The borrower tells tales and darkness follows
And all else cowers in its glow.
